RESEARCH PROJECTS

As a landscape architect intrested in ecology, I understand that there are wider connections to the landscape than just the local enviroment. These include community hubs, their relationship to the site, local projects and developments that can effect the ecology.

The current projects displayed is part of a research booklet where aspects of the ecology was taken into consideration for future development. Using key aspects of the surrounding Meola area, I determined connections that influence the ecology, green network stages and started to intoduce the idea of creating local ecologies that link up through these connection points.

Meola Reef stretches across the waitemata harbour it is an intertidal and subtidal rocky reef . Curently, the reef is situated behind an old landfill site, causing harm to the inhabitants of marine life in the creeka and the ecological state of the creek.  By deconstructing the landscape , I was able to identify key issues. Thes include, but are definantly not limited, the current and past stormwater system, the leachate from the landfill and pollutants.

Invisible sytems such as the abadonet stormwater drains on the edge of the reef and the western springs aquifier contributes to the cureent state of the site. Vegetation efforts along the stream banks to reduce erosion have been made, howver dealing with the stomwater sytem and water runoff have been covered up rather than resloved throgh the research hypthises i have made.
